My research examines the way students' peers and teachers affect academic achievement, motivation, and social relations (e.g., cooperation, competition, conflict resolution, aggression). I came to academia after working at a boarding school for nine years, where I became fascinated by the way students changed—for better and worse—depending on who they were with and their purpose. My hope is that by better understanding why the same student thinks, feels, and behaves so differently in different social contexts, we can leverage the classroom's social dynamics to optimize their achievement, motivation, and social relationships.
